Aprilia's Leon Camier will sit out this weekend's round of WSBK at Imola.

British star Leon Camier will sit out the Aprilia Alitalia team’s home race at Imola in Italy this weekend as a result of the wrist injury he suffered in practice of the German round of the Superbike World Championship a couple of weeks ago.

Camier has had an operation to repair his broken scaphoid, but the best medical advice is that he does not race in Italy, while he may still have a chance to ride in the final round at Magny-Cours on 1-3 October.

“The doctors have said if I came back too early the bone could rub together and it may die and that would be a real problem,” Camier explained. “The scaphoid is not a normal bone, it is a very delicate situation.

“The operation went well, all done under X-rays so no real scar tissue. Now I am doing hyperbaric training to get back soon as I can and we are also looking at other therapies I can do. I may be able to come back and race in France but we need to see how things are.”

Camier’s demise means that world championship leader Max Biaggi will be the lone factory Aprilia rider in action come Sunday, on track to secure his maiden WSBK crown.
