AARK Racing Triumph’s Christan Casella scored an emphatic race two victory in the InsureMyRide Australian Supersport Championship category at Phillip Island this morning, claiming his second race win of the season on the Daytona 675.
Casella edged out Team Suzuki’s title leader Troy Herfoss to win the 10-lap dual by 0.003 in the race to the line, holding off Herfoss’ attempts to draft him to the finish stripe.
A thrilling three-way battle was had by Casella, Herfoss and Sunstate Racing-backed Suzuki privateer Brodie Waters, the trio finishing in that formation at the race’s completion.
Waters clocked the quickest lap of the race at 1:37.4920 on lap eight, before Casella and Herfoss dropped the hammer on the final two laps of the round.
Second was good enough for Herfoss to claim the overall victory, with Casella second and Waters rounding out the podium.
A lonely fourth was had by Aaron Gobert on his privateer Yamaha YZF-R6, maintaining the position throughout the race, while fellow R6 riders Mike Jones was fifth Ben Burke was sixth.
Overall, Burke claimed fourth with Gobert fifth for the round.
