Glenn Allerton is competing with number 111 at Phillip Island this weekend.

Valvoline Superbike Team rider Glenn Allerton has switched from his customary number two to 111 for this weekend’s sixth round of the Australian Superbike Championship at Phillip Island in Victoria.

Running alongside the V8 Supercars Championship Series L&H 500, 2008 ASBK champion Allerton told MotoOnline.com.au that he switched number for the weekend in memory of Levi Di Candilo, who was tragically killed in an incident at Barbagallo Raceway in Western Australia in the lead-up to 2007.

“I’m running the number 111 this weekend because a really good partner of our team, Di Candilo Steel City, their son Levi was a racer from Perth who was tragically killed just before he was about to become my teammate in 2007,” Allerton explained.

“This weekend his father will be out here with the family watching me race and they are a supporter of my effort this year, so in a tribute to him we’re running the 111 number to say thanks and keep his memory alive.”

Allerton was a solid third fastest in Friday’s provisional qualifying sessions, determined to put in a good performance over the weekend with Di Candilo’s race number.

Season 2010 has seen the New South Welshman join the privateer Valvoline Superbike Team on Honda CBR1000RR machinery, also contesting the Asian Road Race Championship on a Yamaha YZF-R6.
