Triple Pro Open Australian Motocross Champion Jay Marmont will fly out of Sydney International Airport tonight directly to the United States where he’ll represent Australia in the Motocross of Nations (MXoN) on 25-26 September.
The CDR Rockstar Energy Yamaha rider will spend time testing and training in California before the prestigious MXoN event at Thunder Valley in Colorado toward the end of the month, excited to represent Australia for the first time in his career.
“For me it’s a dream come true getting selected to represent Australia at the des Nations,” Wollongong-based Marmont commented. “It’s going to go down as a great honour in my career. I’m just looking forward to going over, getting some practice and doing as good as I can on the day.”
Marmont, who recently renewed his contract for next season to defend his MX Nationals title with Yamaha in Australia, will represent Australia in the MXoN alongside American-based South Australian Brett Metcalfe and Queenslander Dean Ferris.
“As a team I think we can do really well,” the 27-year-old said of the team. “On paper we may not be as strong as some teams from Australia in the past, but I think we can pull off a surprise result considering how good Brett has been going in the AMA, plus with Dean and my results here in Australia, we are all confident at the moment.”
In the lead-up to the MXoN event, Marmont will spectate at this weekend’s final round of the AMA Motocross Championship at Pala Raceway in California, before focusing on testing in the lead-up to the MXoN.
“The whole idea of going over early is to adapt to the hotter weather in the States at the moment and I’ve heard some European riders are going early also,” he added. “It will be good to go and practice with guys I haven’t ever ridden with, plus also good to adapt to the U.S. style tracks. It will be good get there that week and a half early and get into the flow on the American tracks. I’m just really looking forward to it.”
