The penultimate round of the 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals is heading to Moree, NSW, and as the biggest motocross event to hit the region it looks set to be massive.
Moree Motorcycle Club President Rory Johnson said locals were stoked to have a round of the national championship heading their way on Sunday 18 July, particularly the opportunity to see regional hero JDR Motorex KTM’s Tye Simmonds in action.
“The club has wholeheartedly supported the concept of putting the Nationals on, we’ve had great support from the town and community, and everyone has realised it’s a big event to hold at such short notice,” Johnson said.
“It will be a bit deal for Tye to ride here, I spoke to him the other day and asked if he was ready for the onslaught and he said ‘bring it on” so he’s more than ready and looking forward to competing against the guys on his home track.”
When asked if he thought the Bourke local, and Moree Motorcycle Club life member, Simmonds, would have a home-track advantage Johnson was certainly optimistic.
“I hope he will have an advantage!” he said. “I think psychologically he will, but like I said, it’s his home track, and he rides his home track like nothing else! “Tye always helps us out with the track; making comments on how to improve it as a whole and having his input, along with others, has helped to make the track what it is today – one of the best tracks in Australia.”
Anticipating a strong crowd, Johnson explained the draw card of having a local star battle it out against international riders and the nation’s best.
“I think we’ll have all 300 people from Bourke turn up!” he said. “When you’ve got Tye lining up at his home track against the likes of two-time Australian Champ Jay Marmont, and international guys like Billy Mackenzie and Cody Cooper – it’s going to be big.”
The seventh round of the 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals will be held on Sunday 18 July at the Moree Motorcycle Club, 10 minutes North of Moree on the Newell Highway in NSW.
