Yoshimura Suzuki has released an update on Australian Superbike Champion Josh Waters, who was concussed and suffered a collapsed lung in a testing crash at Willow Springs in California on Wednesday.
According to the release, Waters is in a stable condition but is still under medical attention in hospital, in doubt for his scheduled debut at Mid-Ohio’s AMA Superbike Championship round on 16-18 July.
The 23-year-old from Mildura in Victoria was preparing for his race debut in a final shakedown test when he crashed, running off the circuit at the ultra-fast Turn Eight at Willow.
As reported yesterday, Waters was taken by helicopter, a standard precaution at Willow Springs, to the hospital where he is currently in stable condition. He will be evaluated for his return to racing in the coming days as his recovery progresses.
Waters’ main concern at this point is the collapsed lung, which happened after he suffered an impact to his neck and caused a slight internal bleed that leaked into one of his lungs. An MRI and numerous medical tests have confirmed Waters didn’t suffer any broken bones in the incident.
Stay tuned for an update later this afternoon.
Waters was set to fill in for the injured Blake Young aboard the Rockstar Makita Suzuki GSX-R1000 while Young recuperates from a get-off at the Barber Superbike test early last month.
