The second round of the Steelblue Western Australian State Road Racing Championships saw Honda rider Cameron Keevers take all three Superbike race wins at Barbagallo last weekend.
There was drama and intrigue with Keevers winning all three races on the track only to have the first race win taken from him for passing under a yellow flag, relegating him to third place. He won the second and third races.
Jamie Boland (Weld West Suzuki 1000) was credited with the race one victory, with Cameron Stronach (Wattsy’s Motorsport R1) given second place.
In the second race Boland was again second with championship leader Ben Henry (Rilusi Suzuki 1000) third.
The third race looked to be going in much the same way until Boland out braked himself at the end of the straight but remounted to finish in 17th place still scoring a couple of points. Henry took second spot and Ben Stronach finished in third after a hard day at the office.
Henry still holds onto the championship lead with 125 points, just three ahead of Keevers with Ben Stronach third on 116 points.
In the second race Cameron Stronach destroyed his R1 when he lost the front going over ‘Skyline’, he walked away uninjured and riding another of the team’s R1’s in the final race finished ninth after starting from the rear of the grid.
The Trakdayz Supersport Championship and incorporated Superstock Series saw championship leader Ralph Mammoliti (Causeway Kawasaki 600) beaten for the first time in 2010 when Alan Forde (U3 Racing R6) caused a boil over in race one when beat Mammoliti to win by 0.1010 of a second in a race which saw both riders lead at various stages.
The second race saw Mammoliti win by six seconds from Forde who finished second having held off a revitalized Adam Senior (Silkolene CBR 600). Senior has renewed confidence in the bike having ditched the Bridgestone front tyre in favour of the Pirelli he prefers.
The final race of the day and again Mammoliti won the race making sure there was to be no repeat of race one, and in the final wash up it was Senior who got the better of Forde, who in turn has proved he can mix it with the front runners on a consistent basis.
Progressive Points tally: Mammoliti 45 pts; A Forde 123, A Chambers 104, D Buckley 97 points.
In the Superstock Series Mason Coote (Hogs Breath Café Joondalup CBR 600) took two wins and a third, whilst his brother Aaiden (Al’s Backhoe Hire CBR 600) took two second places, with Wattsy’s Motorsport’s Craig Frederickson R6 scored two thirds. James Reid (Trakdayz CBR 600) took the win in the final race.
In the Vick Soulios Photography 125GP Championship it was Brad Gross who took out the first race after a race long battle with WA’s rising star Ben Millington, veteran Tom Hatton was third.
The pair were at it again from the onset of race two with both taking turns at the front. Millington got to the front and looked to maybe have the measure of the flying Queenslander until he pushed a little too hard and fell at turn one. Gross took the win from Hatton with Corey Blackman (Fastline TZ 125) was the grateful recipient of third place.
The final race saw Millington back on track and he was as surprised as anyone when Gross failed to start, the result was a repeat of the second race as far as the minor placings was concerned.
The third round of the championship will be held on 25 July, which will have an altered race format with longer Superbike and Supersport races testing the riders’ fitness levels.
