Dungey returned to form with a double race victory at Freestone for the overall in the 450 Class.

New AMA Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey silenced his critics outdoors at Freestone in Texas last weekend, dominating both motos at the second round of the AMA Motocross Championship.

Dungey had been the surprise of the season opener at Hangtown for his lack of form at the round with eighth overall, however the current 250 Class champion bounced back to score his first 450 overall on Saturday in what were hot and humid conditions.

“We put in our work the last couple of weeks, actually it goes all the way back to after the Vegas Supercross, really,” Dungey said after the race. “I admit we didn’t have a good race at Hangtown, but we kept after it as a team and pulled through in some pretty tough conditions in Texas.

“We know each other very well after four-plus years together and you could say we drew on our experience to win this overall. This was a team win.”

Dungey has been a revelation in 2010 since stepping up to the 450 with Rockstar Makita Suzuki, now sitting second in the standings behind Australian Chad Reed.

“My bike was a big advantage today – the power delivery is very controllable and on a rough track like this and it made it easier to be smooth and find good lines,” Dungey continued. “My team really worked hard to get the setup right, and I can’t say enough about them and the bike.”

Dungey’s Aussie teammate Matt Moss had an improved round with 34-20 results to take 24th overall, the rookie still recovering from a wrist injury suffered at the end of last season.

“I had bad luck in the first race with a crash, but in the second moto I got a great start and my bike was working great,” Moss said. “I just struggled with the heat and my wrist, but I do feel like I’m getting better. Next weekend will be good. I have seen the track and it’s the sort of track that I like, so I can’t wait to get there and get a good result.”

The next stop of the series is this weekend at Mt. Morris in Pennsylvania for the Rockstar Energy High Point National.
