Dual World Supersport Champion Andrew Pitt has made a dramatic switch to the British Superbike Championship with the Motorpoint Yamaha team, turning his back on the now defunct Reitwagen BMW World Superbike project.

Pitt will debut in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at the next round at Mallory Park on 25-27 June, looking forward to joining the series on a YZF-R1.

The Australian tested with Rob McElnea’s squad last week at Mallory Park with positive results, however he admits it is going to be a steep learning curve and is relishing the challenge of lining up alongside new teammate Dan Linfoot.

“I have been following the championship and I am looking forward to the new challenge of racing in BSB,” Pitt commented. “It has been a tough season for me so far but I am hoping that this can be the turning point.”

Pitt was recently left without a seat mid-season after his former Reitwagen Motosport BMW World Superbike team failed to live up expectations.

Speaking from his home on the Isle Of Man, Pitt last week voiced his concerns over the team’s recovery from a financial setback and has had to move forward with his career.

“I am very disappointed in this end result after putting in 100 percent effort and putting my neck on the line to help develop a new machine I can’t help but feel all efforts have been wasted,” Pitt commented. “The team owner has not paid me, the team have all left and even the truck is gone. It is all over and time to move forward and try and save my career.

“On a positive note, I am fitter than ever and more enthusiastic and determined to continue winning races than ever before.”
