Marmont will be looking to repeat his 2009 victory at Toowoomba this weekend.

Yamaha’s motocross teams descend on Toowoomba, Queensland for round four of the 2010 Rockstar MX Nationals this weekend, confident of picking up where they left off one year ago.

The picturesque Echo Valley track proved to be a happy hunting ground for Yamaha in 2009 with the manufacturer taking two class wins and two podium spots to and the riders look to repeat their 2009 efforts and stake a claim for the 2010 championship.

CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s defending Pro Open champion Jay Marmont took the round win at Toowoomba last year and is currently placed second in the championship and ready to pounce. Marmont is a fan of the Toowoomba circuit and sees it as a great opportunity to sort the field out as the championship nears the halfway stage.

“The Echo Valley track is a tough track to race,” he said. “The ruts become really deep, the hills are huge and it is a track that rewards those who have been doing the hard work. It’s one of the rounds I’m really looking forward to.”

Teammate Cheyne Boyd was third at the Toowoomba round in 2009 and it was the confidence gained from this round that kick-started a win streak that stretched to eight motos. Boyd currently sits sixth in the 2010 championship and wants to climb the leader board.

It’s practically a home round for the Brisbane based Serco Yamaha team, the factory Yamaha Lites team in the series. Coming off a victory at the Canberra round, Kirk Gibbs currently leads the championship and is looking to continue on with his impressive season to date.

“I have done some riding up at Toowoomba recently and hope to continue on with my results from Canberra,” Gibbs commented. “With Serco based in Brisbane, it would be nice to win the round in front of the teams’ friends, family and supporters.”

Ford Dale also enters the round with plenty of momentum after winning the Queensland Motocross Championship a few weeks ago. Dale, who is based on the Sunshine Coast, is also keen to impress in his home state round.

Yamalube/GYTR/Rockstar Yamaha’s Ross Beaton is second in the Under 19 division and looking to go one better than 2009 when he finished in second place at the corresponding round. Beaton is chasing moto wins to apply some pressure to the points leader and thinks the Toowoomba circuit suits his style.

“The ruts form a lot like my home track in Tasmania and the dirt is very similar,” he said. “I really like the Echo Valley track and I want to go one better than I did in 2009.”

Harley Quinlan is looking for a repeat of his 2009 performance when he dominated the day winning both motos. Quinlan has recently returned from a broken wrist and beginning to show his pre-injury speed.

The Echo Valley circuit is in Toowoomba with gates opening from 8:00am Sunday, 16 May.
