Australian Mark Aitchison has had his plans to enter the Moto2 World Championship next season derailed after it was recently revealed that he has been let go by the Spanish-based A & R Racing Team.
The World Supersport podium finisher had planned on contesting the domestic series in Spain with A&R for this season before hoping to join the world series next, however the team’s plans have now changed after Aitchison scored a seventh place at the season opener.
“To say that I am completely stunned and shocked by the decision the managers of the A & R Racing Team have made to go their separate way, ending our working relationship, is a huge understatement,” he commented.
“Unfortunately during our first race weekend, we did have some unforeseen circumstances that prevented us from making a better result, but in the end I know I didn’t make any mistakes and I gave 110 percent effort toward the project.
“It seems other political factors have contributed to their decision and for this reason I am very saddened by the situation. I wish to say thank you to all the technical personnel involved in the project, my personal sponsors, family and friends who have been very supportive during this time.
“Now all I can do is move on, refocus and find another opportunity on a competitive bike and team, [so I] produce the results that I know I am capable of.”
Aitchison’s future remains uncertain at this point, another crushing blow in what has been a promising international career in recent seasons.
