Australian road racers enjoyed a successful weekend of racing around the world over the ANZAC long weekend, contesting various road race series around the globe.

Ex-Supersport World Champion and WSBK regular Karl Muggeridge won the opening round of the German Superbike Championship (IDM) for the Holzhauer Racing Promotions Honda team, taking a clean sweep after scoring pole position at the Lausitzring.

“The first race started pretty well but then I started to have troubles with the front tyre, which made it difficult to keep up with Jorg [Teuchert], but when [Martin] Bauer crashed big time in front of us and Jorg started to have technical problems, we were gifted the win,” Muggeridge explained.

“The second race was far more satisfying as nobody fell off and it was a proper race. I’m very happy with the changes we’ve made which made the second race 10 seconds faster.

“I’ve enjoyed my first IDM weekend and everybody was very helpful here and made me feel welcome. It’s not going to be straight forward for the next races, but we will work hard to continue where we finished in round one.”

It was an all-Aussie domination at the German opener, with Endurance World Championship star Damian Cudlin winning the Supersport class on debut with Team MRC Austria on a Yamaha YZF-R6 after scoring pole.

Meanwhile, former 2008 Australian Superbike Champion Glenn Allerton rode to victory in the opening round of the Asian Road Race Series on a Red Rooster Yamaha YZF-R6, claiming a second and a first at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia to clinch the overall.

“It was a great race today and I felt really comfortable on my bike,” Allerton commented. “When I was in lead I missed the pit board a couple of times and that was when [Md] Zamri [Baba] caught up to me.

“All in all it was a great race and I had a good outing. I knew my contenders were good but I did not expect them to be this good and I’m looking forward to the race in Japan next month.”
