ASBK: Waters doubles up for clean sweep at Hidden Valley

Reigning Australian Superbike Champion Josh Waters won his second Viking Group ASBK race of the day at Hidden Valley’s second round of the 2010 series in the Northern Territory this afternoon.

The Team Suzuki rider added his victory from race one, claimed in the wet this morning, to double up in the second, winning by 3.324sec from Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing’s Bryan Staring and Valvoline Superbike Team rider Glenn Allerton, who was 10.888sec behind Waters.

Demolition Plus GAS Honda Racing’s Wayne Maxwell was third on track for the race, however a 10-second penalty demoted him to seventh in the race behind Ducati Motologic’s Jamie Stauffer, who was fourth, fifth place Robbie Bugden and sixth place Scott Charlton on the Racer’s Edge Performance Suzuki team.

Rounding out the top 10 in race two was Team Suzuki’s Shawn Giles and Craig Coxhell, the CJC Racing rider taking his BMW S 1000 RR to ninth overall from Ducati rider Craig McMartin.

Waters won the round overall with his clean-sweep ahead of top privateer Allerton and Staring, while Maxwell continues to lead the championship on 73.5 points with an 8.5-point advantage over Staring.

Round winner Waters was the big improver of the round, moving past five riders from eighth to third, now sitting just nine points in arrears of Maxwell after two rounds.
