Former Supersport World Championship runner-up Kevin Curtain has officially returned to the Yamaha Racing Team, undergoing his first test on the team’s YZF-R6 at Eastern Creek yesterday.
Curtain rode a Supersport specification Yamaha that he’ll contest the opening round of the Australian Supersport Championship on at Phillip Island in Victoria next weekend, enjoying his return to YRT.
“I felt at home on the R6 right away,” Curtain said following his first outing of 2010. “We’re working through a lot of things, but it’s good to be back on the Yamaha that’s for sure.”
The test was a private event for YRT and Yamaha’s development riders, giving factory riders Curtain, Pat Medcalf and Rick Olson their first opportunity to ride as a team before making their race debut next weekend.
It also marked YRT’s opening test using the Dunlop GP-A tyres that will be used in Supersport and the Formula Xtreme series this season, the Yamaha team turning its focus to the FX1000 and FX600 categories following the opening ASBK round.
Also on hand at the test were Aaron Gobert, Mitch Pirotta, Chris Beck, Cru Halliday, Aaron Morris, Ryan Dymond and Mike Jones – the YRD riders all making progress throughout the test.
Times were not released from the test, however it’s believed that Medcalf left day one of the test quickest before continuing to circulate during today’s Eastern Creek Ride Day.
