Full Throttle Sports has announced that Bryan Staring will compete in the Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship on an FTS-supported Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade.

According to FTS team manager Brad MacAlpine, a completely separate division is being built to accommodate this expansion and all parties are looking forward to this new and exciting challenge as the team adds to its factory Honda Motocross and Supercross effort.

“It’s important that we provide current Australian Supersport Champion Bryan Staring every opportunity to be the best he can be,” MacAlpine said. “A naming sponsor will soon be announced as the team dynamics come together. Bryan tested the bike yesterday and is definitely looking forward to further testing and round one.”

Staring is also thankful for the opportunity to compete in the ASBK’s premier class with Honda.

“This is a great opportunity for me to further my career,” Staring said. “I can’t thank Yamaha enough for what they did for me last year. I have enjoyed working with them and I’d like to thank everyone on the team for their support. I just feel that the Formula Xtreme series is not the direction I need to take to further my career.”

“Yesterday’s test went better than I expected, it’s the first time I have ridden a Superbike in two years. I had to get used to the bike and the new tyres. By the end of the day I was really starting to feel comfortable.

“I can’t contain my excitement. Winning the Australian Supersport Championship last year was a dream of mine, but I have done
that and I am not the type of guy that needs to parade around with a number one plate. My goal has always been to race and win a Superbike Championship and I really feel this new team can provide that opportunity for me.”

Russell Farrow has been appointed to road race team manager and has worked closely with Bryan in the past.

“Bryan is a true champion and a terrific rider to work with,” Farrow said. “This was the type of opportunity I have been looking for – I look forward to the challenges presented and am poised to provide an environment that allows Bryan and the team to perform at their best.”

Tony Hinton, general manager of Honda Australia Motorcycles agrees that the ASBK is where Staring should be.

“Although we are not fielding a factory Superbike Team in the ASBK this year, it’s great to see Bryan with a ride that will allow him to test his skills against the best Superbike racers in the country,” Hinton said. “Bryan is a fantastic rider and it is wonderful to see him back on a Honda. Honda supported Bryan in his junior days and we are delighted that he has chosen to race our awarding winning CBR1000RR.”

“Honda will be present at Phillip Island’s Round 1of the World Superbikes with a motorcycle and merchandise display and corporate hospitality. We wish everyone a safe ride and look forward to a successful weekend both off and on the race track,” Hinton concluded.
