Australian Garry McCoy has been replaced on the BE1 Racing Team that campaigns Triumph’s factory World Supersport team, leaving the former GP and WSBK race victor without a seat for 2010.
The last minute move that will see American Jason Disalvo join British rider Chas Davies in the team has left McCoy on the sidelines despite featuring on the team’s provisional entry list for this season.
“First of all I would like to thank all the messages of support I have been receiving in the late hours – I am absolutely shocked,” McCoy said of the surprise.
“Shocked to say how this has ended, after all of last year’s achievements. This was going to be my third year with Triumph and amongst everything it was going to be the greatest season for each and every person who has bet on Triumph’s project.”
McCoy had joined the manufacturer for 2008 in its return to world championship racing, picking up its first world championship podium in 40 years at Donington Park last year – the team’s home round in the world title.
“I had found a home with Triumph and I have been fully investing myself since 2008 in the development of the bike,” McCoy continued. “At this stage of the season the damage caused is incalculable and I am not talking about economic terms.
“I am talking about one’s illusion, about goals in life, about achievements. I started racing in World Championship in 1992. My goal is as simple as keep on racing and entertaining all the fans that believe in my work.”
McCoy had not yet officially signed for the team for 2010, but was in the final negotiations when informed that his services would not be required for this season.
Triumph has previously spoken about McCoy’s re-signing for this season, who denies any speculation that his salary asking price was what turned the deal sour at the 11th hour.
“The official test is this weekend and my suit is already in Portimao,” he explained. “Despite the rumours that have been spread through various online sources about my economic requests, I invite whomever wants to get the correct information.
“My loyalty to Triumph will prevail,” he concluded.
Testing will take place at Portimao in Portugal this weekend, where Disalvo will make his debut alongside Davies on the Italian-based team.
