Australia’s Casey Stoner has revealed that he’s eyeing a switch to Australian V8 Supercars in the future after his career in motorcycle racing wraps up.

The 2007 MotoGP World Champion told leading international magazine Autosport at Ducati’s annual Wrooom Press Ski Event in Italy this week that it’s something he’d like to do.

“After I retire from bikes it’s my plan basically,” Stoner told Autosport. “I enjoy driving dirt cars around. Before I retire I may be testing a few cars and get ready, but once I retire from bikes I think cars will be a little bit more of a relaxing sport for me.”

It was at that point when Stoner revealed that he wasn’t looking for an international career on four wheels, instead hoping to follow in the footsteps of Wayne Gardner and Troy Bayliss by launching a V8 Supercar campaign.

“I’m not talking about going to Formula 1, but something like V8 touring cars in Australia – I think something like that would be a lot of fun,” he revealed. “It’s something I’m planning on. But for now and for the near future I’m enjoying my bikes and that’s all I want to do for now.”

Stoner will enter the 2010 MotoGP World Championship as a favourite alongside Valentino Rossi, putting his illnesses from last season behind him in a bid to regain the number one plate.
