Oz SW: Epic battle set up for Australian Speedway finale

Queenslander Troy Batchelor is only one round away from becoming 2010 Australian Speedway Solo Champion, following victories at the first two rounds of the championship.

With the final round set to take place on 9 January, at Newcastle Showgrounds, Batchelor will battle against second placed Chris Holder (NSW) and current World Under 21 Speedway Champion Darcy Ward (QLD), who currently sits in third place.

Director of Graeme Boyd Promotions, Graeme Boyd, said that the final round looks set to be spectacular with the finishing touches now underway at the track.

“After eight straight days of rain, we’ve finally finished work on the track,” Boyd said. “The track is probably one of the fastest in Australia; it’s really hard and slick and should make for some fantastic racing!”

In addition to getting the track perfect for racing, additional seating in the form of a new grandstand will ensure spectators don’t miss out on any of the action.

“A new 2000-seat grandstand has been put up, taking our seating up to 4500, so we’re expecting a massive crowd this weekend,” Boyd said. “A lot of people don’t realise that the world championship sport of Speedway originated from the Hunter Valley back in 1923. With Aussies like three times World Speedway Champion, Jason Crump, and World Under 21 Champion, Darcy Ward, dominating the World scene, there’s such a great depth of talent in Aussie Speedway right now. The final round will be a great chance for everyone to check out the high calibre of Aussie racing including current World Under 21 Champ Darcy Ward in action.”

The final round of the 2010 Australian Speedway Solo Championship will take place on Saturday 9 January 2010.
