YAMAHA RACING:

With a two week break between races, Yamaha Racing’s squad of riders are feeling refreshed and rejuvenated for the seventh and final round of the 2009 Monster Energy Super X series at Brisbane’s QSAC Stadium on Saturday December 5, 2009.

A disastrous four races at the penultimate round of the series has provided CDR Rockstar Yamaha rider, Jay Marmont with more determination this weekend as he rides a brand new 2010 Yamaha YZ450F.  He will be joined by AMA superstar, Josh Grant who will compete with support from the team lead by Craig Dack.

Brisbane-based Pro Lites riders, Kyle Cunningham and Kirk Gibbs are hoping for a strong result in front of the team’s home crowd with Cunningham looking to finish the year on a high by recording his first round victory.

The final round of the Monster Energy Super X series will feature the Triple Challenge format with the person awarded the most points over the course of the three final races of the evening determined the winner of the round.

Yamaha Racing will host an autograph session with all riders at Pro Yamaha in Springwood from 5.00 – 7.00pm tonight (Thursday December 3, 2009).

Pro Open Report

After touching down in Australia yesterday, Yamaha supported rider, Josh Grant will compete at the final round of the Monster Energy Super X series at Brisbane’s QSAC Stadium.

Grant, who was fourth in the 2009 AMA/World Supercross Championship, will ride a brand new 2010 YZ450F, supported by Yamaha’s factory Pro Open squad, CDR Rockstar Yamaha.

The team will also campaign the brand new 2010 YZ450F for Jay Marmont who is currently third in the championship with just four points separating him from second placed rider, Daniel Reardon.

Marmont said after being involved in the official launch of the bike last month, he couldn’t wait to use the machine in a race situation.

“I was fortunate enough to be involved in the official launch of the 2010 YZ450F and absolutely loved it from the start.  The team have worked hard to get all the right parts so I can race it this weekend and after three days of testing I simply cannot wait to get out there on Saturday night,” Marmont said.

“There is just four points separating me from Daniel Reardon who is second in the championship and I think the new bike will give me the push needed to try and work my way into second overall.”

CDR Rockstar Yamaha Team Principal, Craig Dack echoed Marmont’s thoughts on the superiority of the 2010 model.

“Jay [Marmont] was simply rapt with the 2010 YZ450F at Yamaha’s official launch of the bike and after three days of searching for parts to ensure he had all the right equipment required we were able to complete another three days of testing which went extremely well,” Dack said.

“CDR Rockstar Yamaha will also be hosting American Josh Grant for the weekend which is fantastic. Josh [Grant] and his mechanic are great guys and it is a huge opportunity to be able to work with them as they prepare for the 2010 Supercross season in America.”

CDR Rockstar Yamaha regular, Cheyne Boyd will once again be absent from the event after sustaining an elbow injury at the fifth round of the series in Parramatta.

Pro Lites Report

The Serco Yamaha fans are expected to be out in force at Saturday night’s final round of the Monster Energy Super X series supporting the Brisbane-based team and its Pro Lites riders Kyle Cunningham and Kirk Gibbs.

Cunningham, who returned home to America in the three week break for the Pro Lites category, said he is hoping to claim his first round victory of the season this weekend before returning to the US for the AMA Supercross Championship.

“I went back to America for a week during the break, I did a little bit of a test ride and hung out with my trainer and did a bit of training, which was good,” Cunningham said.

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend as the track is pretty close to where I have been living, so I suppose you could call it my home track in Australia.  From what I’ve heard the track is also suppose to be bit longer like the tracks back at home, which should be good.

“My main goal for the weekend is to just get out there and get a good start and hopefully finish on top of the box – see if we can’t get a win before I go home.”

Kirk Gibbs, who relocated from South Australia to Queensland earlier this year to be closer to his Serco Yamaha team said he is looking forward to a strong result in front of a home crowd.

“I am still carrying a bit of a knee injury and after Parramatta I had a week off to let it recover,” Gibbs said. “I got back on the bike a few weeks ago and have been putting in as many laps as possible so I can try and catch up with a great race result this weekend.”

“I’m really looking forward to this event as I now live in Brisbane and with Serco Yamaha-based here it is like my new home.  I know of lots of people coming from both Queensland and also from my home state of South Australia for the event, so I’m really hoping I can get a good result to thank all the people who have supported me during the year.”
