18 year old upcoming star from the USA, PJ Larsen, is confirmed to race in the finale of the Monster Energy Super X championship at the QSAC stadium in Brisbane this Saturday December 5. The seventh and final round of the championship will be the biggest supercross event ever held in Australia with the strongest rider lineup ever assembled in the country.

Larsen, who will be racing in the open class, was the 2008 Loretta Lynns Champion and was the recipient of the 2008 AMA Horizon Award, which is awarded to the best up and comer. He had his first pro season in 2009 for the Canidae Kawasaki Team and gained top five finishes in the West Coast Supercross Lites series.

JDR Motorsports / MXRAD Team Manager, Jay Rynenberg said he is really excited about bringing Larsen out to race.

“PJ has had an outstanding amateur career with several national titles, and a strong rookie season in the pro ranks this year. Although he made a few rookie mistakes, he really showed he has the potential to become a future champion. With Andrew (McFarlane) injured, this provided a perfect opportunity for PJ to step in and fly the flag for the JDR Motorsports / MXRAD race team.”

Larsen will be competing against a host of riders who race full time in the USA including dual world supercross champion and current Monster Energy Super X leader, Chad Reed. Two of the top ten riders in the world from the USA; Josh Grant and Davi Millsaps as well as Queensland stars, Daniel Reardon and Michael Byrne. Upcoming star Matt Moss will also be competing in the Open class along with Jay Marmont who is currently third overall in the series and Tye Simmonds who is fourth.

“I’ve been out in Australia for a few days now and I am really enjoying myself. It’s a different way of life out here but the team has been really supportive. I rode the bike for the first time yesterday and felt comfortable right away; I have never ridden a Yamaha before so it’s a credit to the MXRAD guys for setting it up so fast,” said Larsen.

“I’ve been watching Super X on the internet back home a lot and it seems like there is a lot of hype and attention towards the series this year, so I am looking forward to lining up against Chad (Reed), Jay (Marmont) and all the other Aussie guys!”

The hugely successful Triple Challenge race format will feature in the finals of the Open and 250cc classes, which pits riders against each other in three, seven lap races (Open) and three, five lap races (250cc). Three nail biting holeshots followed by such short and fast sprints will create action packed racing that leaves no room for error.

There will be a host of activities at the event to keep fans entertained including an invitational junior race with the best upcoming riders in the country competing, a Sedgeway race with professional Sedgeway racers and a tribute to retiring legend, Troy Carroll.
