Current Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, point leader Jay Marmont is set to switch to the 2010 model Yamaha YZ450F for the Brisbane season finale after making his debut on the new bike this week.
The CDR Rockstar Yamaha rider first rode the revolutionary fuel-injected bike at Appin motocross track on Monday in preparation for the Australian media launch, held today, with the defending double MX Nationals champion now looking to race to bike at Brisbane on 5 December.
“As far as a race bike goes I think the new 2010 450 will be good and after riding it on Monday we are trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together to maybe race it at Brisbane,” revealed Marmont in an interview with MotoOnline.com.au. “We’ve been making phone calls trying to get pipes and suspension for it and I’m pretty confident to say that the bike’s going to be good to run with just some suspension mods. We’ll start our testing at the end of next week and you might see us on it for Brisbane.”
Marmont looked confident and fast during the media launch today, but will now focus on this weekend’s penultimate round of the Super X series in Hamilton, New Zealand, where he’ll continue on the 2009 model that he has ridden to two round victories already this season.
A final decision on Marmont’s debut on the 2010 model will come next week.
