James Stewart has pulled out of the Brisbane round of Super X.

It was announced today that James Stewart will withdraw from competing in the Brisbane round of the Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, due to medical reasons, also pulling out of a race scheduled for Genoa in Italy.

The current AMA and World Supercross Champion was forced to withdraw from the third day of racing the Bercy Supercross (Paris, France) and forfeit his potential win as a result of contracting a severe case of food poisoning. Upon return to the United States and his home base in Florida, Stewart took minimal time to recover before getting back into an aggressive training and testing program for the upcoming races and 2010 Supercross season.

After recent medical evaluation, his Doctor and L&M medical staff found his immune system to be dangerously compromised and James was advised by his Doctor and Team that he should discontinue any strenuous activity and not travel out of the country at this time.

“I am really bummed about not being able to race in Italy and Australia. I’ve had such a great experience racing internationally. The fans are incredible and the race organizations really go out of their way to support me racing,” explained Stewart. “I really wish I could still go but after talking with my doctors and team it’s not in my best interest to jeopardize my health before the long Supercross season starts.”

“At this time, James will be focusing on getting healthy and preparing to defend his Supercross championship title,” said San Manuel Yamaha team manager Larry Brooks. “Taking time to improve his health and well being is our first priority.”

Stewart will continue to undergo medical evaluation and refrain from any kind of strenuous training activity until his Doctor and medical staff advise he is fit to resume.

America’s current world supercross champion, James Stewart, has withdrawn from the Brisbane round of the Monster Energy Super X championship and the Genoa Supercross in Italy after medical tests revealed a dangerously low immune system, which has forced him out of all racing for the rest of 2009.

“I am so disappointed I can no longer come out and race in Australia and I apologise to all of the Australian fans. I will definitely be there next year to make it up to you all. It is doctor’s orders that I cannot race and my health has to be my number one priority,” said Stewart.

Managing Director of Global Action Sports, Michael Porra, said it is very disappointing James has had to withdraw, but unfortunately it is the nature of the business.

“James is really upset he can no longer race so we have already locked him in to compete in one of the Super X events next year. We are currently in negotiations with another big name US replacement for Brisbane who we are hoping to announce in the next few days.

“The Brisbane event is still going to be spectacular and it looks like the championship will go right down to the wire and be decided at the series finale. Chad Reed is currently seven points behind our series leader Daniel Reardon and six points behind Jay Marmont. The championship is wide open, which is great news for fans,” concluded Porra.

Monster Energy Super X star and Stewart’s biggest rival, Chad Reed, was also disappointed at the news he will no longer be racing.

“It was going to be a great battle for fans and I was really looking forward to racing against James in Australia in front of a home crowd, but the Brisbane round will still be awesome and the championship will be decided there. It’s good to know that James will be here next year so we can give the fans what they want.

There are two rounds remaining in the Monster Energy Super X event with the sixth round to take place in Hamilton, New Zealand for the penultimate round of the championship on November 21 before the final round in Brisbane at QSAC stadium December 5.
