Hannspree Ten Kate Honda World Superbike rider Jonathan Rea has taken a clean-sweep of the Kings of Wanneroo international event at Barbagallo Raceway in Western Australia today, impressing in his first visit to the undulating circuit.
Pole position yesterday went to KTM Australia’s Shannon Johnson, the Australian Supersport Championship front-runner setting the pace on the RC8R throughout the weekend until a devastating mechanical forced him out of the proceedings after a titanic battle with Irishman Rea in the early races.
Johnson’s demise boosted teammate and double Supersport World Champion Andrew Pitt to second overall for the weekend, while Kawasaki British Superbike rider Simon Andrews had a solid weekend to round out the podium behind the pair of international favourites, taking advantage of a final race misfortune for Ian Lowry.
Top Australian domestic scorer overall was Yamaha Racing Team ASBK star Dan Stauffer, who finished fourth overall on an Allect Racing YZF-R1 ahead of Lowry and former MotoGP star Jeremy McWilliams, the second of the factory KTMs.
