YAMAHA RACING:

Yamaha Racing is hoping to return to the podium at the third round of the 2009 Monster Energy Super X at Perth’s Burswood Dome on Saturday October 31, 2009.

Cheyne Boyd and Jay Marmont were notable absentees from last weekend’s podium presentation after a string of unlucky events resulted in the CDR Rockstar Yamaha team missing their first podium in 18 months.

The result has put more fuel in the belly of Victorian, Boyd who has vowed to finish inside the top three at Perth this weekend.

Serco Yamaha rider, Kyle Cunningham is also looking to improve on his two podium placings with the young American working on his starts during the week in an effort to have a better shot at taking victory in the Pro Lites class.

The 472 metre full-scale Supercross track constructed at the Burswood Dome will host the Round Robin and Super Sprint race formats for the Pro Open and Pro Lites classes respectively.

After the disappointment of not finishing on the podium at the opening two rounds of the 2009 Monster Energy Super X Series, CDR Rockstar Yamaha rider, Cheyne Boyd has vowed to finish inside the top three for this weekend’s third round of the championship at the Burswood Dome in Perth.

Boyd and his team-mate Jay Marmont were lucky to walk away without serious injury following last weekend’s second round of the series, with both riders involved in incidents during the start of two of the four main event races.

This was the worst weekend recorded by the CDR Rockstar Yamaha team, who has had at least one rider appear on the podium at each of their national level motocross and supercross races for the last 18 months – a success rate which would make some of the nation’s most victorious sporting teams envious.

Boyd said that last weekend’s result has made him even hungrier for a podium finish at this weekend event in Western Australia.

“I haven’t had a bad round like last weekend for a very long time,” Boyd said, “I rode the best and fastest I have for a long time and I felt comfortable on the bike but I got caught up in two incidents which was really disappointing.”

“I’ve had a good week of testing and I feel like I am on top of everything ahead of this weekend. It’s like the motocross season, I know what I have to do and I’ve got what I need to do it, I just need to stick to the program and use my head more in order to finish on the podium.

“I am unlucky to have missed out on the podium and I feel as though I’m not too far away from a top three finish. Jay [Marmont] and I have stepped up our speed a lot and as Jay proved at the first round of the series, winning is not out of the picture if you can get a good start and make a few passes.”

Marmont, won the opening round of the 2009 Monster Energy Super X series and is also hoping to return to the podium after finishing fourth last weekend. The Wollongong-based rider is currently third in the championship point score.

Pro Lites Report

Two podium finishes at the opening two rounds of the 2009 Monster Energy Super X Series just simply aren’t enough for Serco Yamaha’s Kyle Cunningham who is predicting he will take another two steps up on the podium to take the winners trophy at this weekend’s third round of the series at Perth’s Burswood Dome.

Cunningham, who only arrived in Australia from his home-base in America a week prior to the series, said that after working on his starts he believes he can take the fight to series points leader, Matt Moss during this weekend’s 15 lap final.

“I’ve mainly been practicing this week and working on my starts as I felt these let me down a little bit in Geelong,” Cunningham said,

“I just feel like if I can get out of the gate in front of [Matt] Moss and be the first to the opening corner then I will be in more of position to race him and hopefully come out with the victory.”

Joining Cunningham in Perth will be his Serco Yamaha team-mate, Kirk Gibbs who was sixth in Geelong last weekend.
