Oz SX: Matt Moss wins Lites in mixed night for Suzuki in Tassie

ROCKSTAR MOTUL SUZUKI:

Team Rockstar Motul Suzuki star Matt Moss kicked off the defence of his Australian Super X title in style on Saturday night with two dominant performances at Launceston’s Aurora Stadium.

In a race that marked the debut of the fuel injected Suzuki RM-Z250L0, Moss showed his class in both finals and proved he is determined to maintain his hold on the coveted red plate.

Moss was jumped at the start by Adam Monea – also riding a Suzuki RM-Z250 (SP Motorsport / Byrners Suzuki) – but Moss once again displayed the maturity that won him the 2009 Australian MX championship.

Moss bided his time, before making his move on lap five and was never headed on the final three laps.

Monea finished second, while Team Shift Motul Suzuki Development’s teenage sensation Lawson Bopping finished strongly in fourth, ensuring Suzuki RM-Z250s filled three of the first four places.

In the second final of the Super X Lites, Monea grabbed the holeshot again, but was quickly run down by a determined Moss.

For the final four laps of the race he was pushed all the way by US import Kyle Cunningham, with the pair banging bars in a dramatic tussle before Moss pulled away in the final lap to claim the maximum points haul.

Bopping rode another strong race and showed he will be in contention with a big points haul, while Monea finished the round in sixth place overall.

Unfortunately for the Moss clan, the news wasn’t so good for twin brother Jake in the Super X Open class.

Jake was in sensational form in the qualifying section of the Super X Open championship, but had his hopes dashed by a fall and subsequent injury to his arm that ensured he left the first round with a zero points haul.

Moss suffered a broken wrist in the fall and, at this stage, looks unlikely to compete any further in this Super X season.

Suzuki’s evergreen Cam Taylor (SP Motorsport / Byrners Suzuki) proved he still has what it takes to mix with the very best with a solid points haul and finished the round in 10th place overall.

The Super X title race moves to Skilled Stadium in Geelong this Saturday, where Matt will look to build on his dominant first-round performance, pushed all the way by rising stars Monea and Bopping.

MATT MOSS – TEAM ROCKSTAR MOTUL SUZUKI
“That was a great way to start the series. The new fuel injected RM-Z250 ran beautifully; Jay’s put together a bike that can take me to another title.”

JAY FOREMAN – TEAM ROCKSTAR MOTUL SUZUKI MANAGER
“Everything went to plan for Matt and it was a fantastic debut for the new RM-Z250. Obviously we wanted a good points haul in the first round, so to get the maximum is a bonus.

“Matt looks really sharp and we’ve got plenty more development to come in the new bike, so we’re looking good to go back to back.”
