MOTORCYCLING AUSTRALIA:
Superb performances from Yamaha Pro Open teammates, Jay Marmont and Cheyne Boyd, placing first and second in the 2009 Australian Motocross Championship, along with Yamaha mounted Andrew McFarlane in third place, have handed the blue bike manufacturer yet another trophy – the 2009 ADB Manufacturers’ Cup.
Assisted by the efforts of Beau Ralston, Matt Haworth, and Robbie Marshall throughout the season, Yamaha took the Cup after amassing an impressive 1821 points, 751 points clear of second placed Honda, with Kawasaki in third place on 1014 points.
Yamaha’s Ray Howard was left wrestling with more one massive trophy at the end of presentations at Coolum, Queensland, with ADB’s Editor Sam Maclachlan also handing over the Manufacturers’ Cup for the Pro Lites class.
Providing Yamaha with 1058 points and an unassailable Pro Lites lead were teammates Mitch Hoad and Kirk Gibbs, along with Danny Anderson and Ryan Marmont while things were a lot tighter further down the field, with Kawasaki finishing second on 844 points, followed by Honda on 835 points.
Despite Pro Lites Champion and Suzuki rider, Matt Moss, individually contributing an impressive 422 of Suzuki’s 833 points it wasn’t enough to step the yellow bike into third place.
Yamaha’s Motorsport Division Manager, Ray Howard was thrilled to be taking out not one but three national titles and dominating the ADB Manufacturers’ Cup for 2009.
“Yamaha has its heritage in racing – it’s infused in our DNA,” Howard said.
“Racing refines and defines our products and the evidence is seen first-hand in our all-new 2010 YZ250F.
“Most striking in the results is the depth of talent currently choosing to ride the Yamaha product.
“This is testimony to Yamaha’s involvement in all levels of the sport – from the junior ranks, through to the factory teams.
“Yamaha has invested heavily and believes in supporting riders through their formative year’s right through to the elite levels and it’s very pleasing when all of this is rewarded with such spectacular results.”
ADB’s Editor, Sam Maclachlan, said that the Cup was a great way to gauge each of the manufactures’.
“The ADB Manufacturers’ Cup highlights not only a manufacturer’s performances, but also the quality of a brand’s depth in the Championship,” Maclachlan said.
“It is something both pros and privateers can contribute to, with the result a good reflection of where the brand stands at the time in Australian motocross.”
