WOODSTOCK HONDA:
Woodstock Honda Thor Racing’s Dean Ferris capped off the 2009 Australian Motocross Championship in style with a podium in the Pro Lites class at the final round in Coolum, Queensland.
Ferris qualified second and raced strongly in all three Motos, recording a 6th and 4th place finish in Motos 1 and 2.
He then achieved his personal best result in the final Moto, finishing second behind race winner Matt Moss, to claim the final spot on the Pro Lites podium for the weekend.
“I said leading into this weekend that I wanted to finish the motocross season off with a podium, so I’m wrapt for myself and the Woodstock Honda team that I could achieve that.” said Dean Ferris.
Team Manager Yarrive Konsky said he was proud of Dean’s achievements, in particularly how hard he had worked to recover from his injuries.
“To finish tenth in the championship despite missing the first four rounds with injury just shows that Dean certainly could have been a title contender,” said Yarrive Konsky.
“In this sport injuries are something we will always have to deal with, but I am just thankful that all our riders have made a full recovery.”
“Our support riders Peter (Boyle) and Brent (Landman) have also done a great job filling in for our injured Pro Open riders this year. It is testament to the strength of our team that we have managed to regroup and finish the season so strongly.”
In the Pro Open class Brent Landman posted a DNF in the first Moto, but recovered to finish 7th in the second and third Motos. Landman finished 12th overall for the weekend, and capped the championship off in 8th position.
Fellow Pro Open rider Peter Boyle finished 20th, 13th and 17th respectively in the three Motos to complete the round in 16th overall.
Boyle also finished 12th in the 2009 Australian motocross championship Pro Open standings.
In the Women’s Championship Rebecca Lipsett secured 8th in the final round, and 8th in the points standings.
Guest rider and former Australian Motocross Champion Glen Bell revelled in his return to racing, placing second for the round in the Vets Championship. Former American motocross champion Jimmy Ellis finished the Vets round in 15th.
With the completion of the 2009 Australian Motocross Championship, the Woodstock Honda Thor Racing team is now focused on preparations for the upcoming Super X Series.
“We are planning on having our full complement of riders fit and ready for this year’s Super X series,” said Yarrive Konsky.
“I’m confident that with Todd Waters and Ford Dale back from injury, we will be challenging for podiums and race wins this year.”
The 7-round Super X series kicks off at Launceston’s Aurora Stadium on Saturday October 17th.
