CHAD REED:
Australia’s Chad Reed went 1-1 to record his third overall 450 class win of the season at Washougal MX Park on Saturday.
Reed proved unstoppable in his most dominant outing to date. He adapted well to the slippery, undulating surface and set a solid pace in the day’s early sessions.
The red-plate holder got the jump on the field as the gates dropped on moto one, stealing the holeshot and establishing himself as the form rider early in the piece.
He rode his own race, setting quick, comfortable laps before coming on strong in the final stages to protect his lead.
The start of moto two was more evenly-matched, and Reed found himself scrapping for position in the impending first-corner battle.
He emerged at the back of the top ten, with a tough task ahead of him to reel in the breakaway leaders.
A frustrating few laps passed before he began to dig deep at the 10-minute mark.
Reed picked off the leaders one-by-one, before finding himself in the thick of the battle between Jason Lawrence and Josh Grant.
He moved passed Lawrence and immediately turned his attention to Grant.
With four laps remaining, the Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider executed an incredible downhill pass on the leader, before clearing out to take his sixth moto win of the season.
“I just put my head down. I didn’t even know who was winning (in moto two),” said Reed.
“The sun was setting and coming through the trees and made it really hard to see in some places so I just kept looking for lines.
“I’ve just tried to be smooth (and) fast throughout the motos. The 30 minutes is the easy part. Today I felt strong. I just did what I had to do to win.
“I’m excited to be here this Summer. I really felt as though this was my weakest link and I want to be stronger.
“I looked at everything that was going to help me be a better rider. I really want to step up in 2010 and challenge for that Supercross title again.”
Reed’s third overall win of the season further extends his points advantage in the 450 class.
With four rounds remaining he enjoys a 65 point lead over second place.
The next round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship will be held at Unadilla in New Berlin, NY on the 15th of August.
