Woodstock Honda:

An ecstatic Brent Landman finished a convincing 2nd in race 2 of the MX National’s fifth round at Murray Bridge last weekend.

“Really this is a turning point in my career … I still need to pinch my self.” exclaimed Brent afterwards.

The rain fell the night before racing, turning the perfectly groomed Murray Bridge circuit in South Australia into a deeply rutted and heavy soiled track.

However, the benefit of Brent’s thorough preparation was apparent right from the qualifying races of the Pro Open class.

“Qualifying went awesome. The bike, tyres and team were working well. We came here a few weeks ago to test and I really felt well prepared.”

“It’s funny, I rode past the pit board area during qualifying and Yarrive was holding up one finger. I didn’t know what he was signalling. I thought he was suggesting to do one more fast lap or that there was maybe one lap to go. When I came in I realised Yarrive was letting me know I was actually sitting in 1st place. Even though I ended up 3rd in the end I was still overwhelmed”

Third was Brent’s highest qualifying position overall with the likes of Cheyne Boyd and Andrew MacFarlane the only two to better Brent in the qualifiers, while fellow Woodstock Thor Honda Pro Open team riders Josh Hansen and Peter Boyle qualified 13th and 18th respectively.

Lites Class

Returning to racing after three months off due to injury, Dean Ferris finished 6th overall after qualifying a respectable 8th.

“I was happy with my speed in the first moto. I was fourth quickest and felt I could run a good pace.”

In race 1 Dean started poorly but was able to work his way around several riders early on to battle for 3rd before tiring and slipping back to 7th .

In race 2 Dean started poorly again and had to fight his way back through the pack, pushing past Kade Mosig for 6th during the race and maintaining position until the end.

“My race fitness needs working on,’ he admitted.

Open Class

After the qualifiers the Woodstock Honda Thor team regrouped and looked poised for some great finishes in race 1.

However, as Brent did not finish race 1, his speed and endurance weren’t unveiled until race 2. Josh Hansen raced to 6th and Peter Boyle to 7th in race 1 respectively.

Josh confessed his first motocross race in three years tested his race fitness.

“I was actually sick after the race. I haven’t done a 30-minute moto in nearly three years. I know I have the speed to run up the front, I just need to work on my fitness.

In race 2 Josh collided with another rider in the air which put him over the bars. He got up and was able to resume racing but the setback cost him and he placed 17th .

Peter Boyle finished 10th while a thrilled Brent Landman raced to an impressive 2nd .

“I really can’t believe this. Yarrive and the team have believed in me 100%. I just needed to do the same. My parents, girlfriend and sponsors have backed me for a long time. To be honest one of my best friends passed away last week (Bronte Holland), and that was inspiration enough for me to give it my all. I am finally realising I have nothing to lose, by giving it everything I have, after all I will only get one shot at this”

Overall Peter finished 7th , Brent 9th and Josh 13th.
