Yamaha Racing:

Yamaha Racing’s dominating form has continued through the fifth round of the 2009 Motocross Nationals at the Murray Bridge Sporting Car and Motorcycle Club today with teams celebrating success in both Pro Open and Under 19’s categories.

CDR Rockstar Yamaha replicated their round four success claiming first and second in the Pro Open class while the GYTR Yamaha Junior Development Team took a clean sweep of the Under 19’s podium.

Today’s results have also seen Yamaha take control of the top three positions in the Pro Open championship order.

CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s Cheyne Boyd has leapt to second in the Motocross Nationals Pro Open championship after winning both races Round 5 of the series at the Murray Bridge Sporting Car and Motorcycle Club today.

Boyd, who also won both motos at the previous round in MacKay, took his dominance to another level. The Victorian rider consistently pulled ahead on every lap he contested and greeted the checkered flag over 25 seconds ahead of his nearest rivals in both races.

“I proved to myself at Mackay that I can win races and after losing my friend Bronte Holland a week ago I knew I wanted to go out there and win for him today,” Boyd acknowledged.

“The whole day went to plan I was quickest in practice and qualifying and even though I didn’t get the best of starts in the first moto I rode consistently and made sure I didn’t make any mistakes.”

“I holeshot the second race and didn’t look back. Another maximum points haul has moved me into second in the championship,” he added.

Teammate Jay Marmont who was second overall today extended his championship lead and now sits 30 points ahead of Boyd in the order.

Marmont endured a tough day on the sandy track finishing second in Moto 1 and fifth in Moto 2 after a mishap in the later stages of the race saw him become unseated from his YZ450F.

Team Principal Craig Dack praised both riders performance and conceded he couldn’t ask for anything more.

“Overall it was another great day,” Dack said. “We stretched our lead in the championship and got Cheyne (Boyd) upto second in the championship.”

“While we will continue to take each race as it comes, we can be comfortable with the fact that we are in the best possible position right now.”

Riders will have little time to reflect with only a week to prepare for the sixth round of the series at Western Australia’s Wanneroo Motocross Club on Sunday 21st June.

Pro Lites Report

It was a tough day at the office for Serco Yamaha with Kirk Gibbs claiming seventh overall at his home event and his team-mate Mitch Hoad finishing 11th at the fifth round of the Australian Motocross Championship at Murray Bridge.

Gibbs showed great determination throughout the opening moto and recovered from a bad start to finish in sixth despite losing his goggles halfway through the 30 minute race.

Gibbs’ luck didn’t improve in the second moto with the YZ250F rider once again forced to fight his way through the pack after enduring another bad start.  Again he worked his way through the pack and eventually finished seventh.

“It was definitely a disappointing round,” Gibbs said, “I had high expectations with it being my home event and I knew I could do it but unfortunately it didn’t come together on the day.”

“I was happy with my speed during each moto, I just need to buckle down and work on my starts to ensure I am able to challenge the guys at the front from the word go.”

It was also a testing day for Hoad who was forced to settle for fourth in the opening moto after sustaining a flat front tyre while challenging for a position inside the top three.

The Serco Yamaha rider bounced back in the second race to take the hole shot and lead the opening laps of race but a nasty crash in the whoops section of the Murray Bridge track sidelined Hoad with suspected concussion.

Gibbs and Hoad remain fifth and sixth respectively in the 2009 Pro Lites Championship.

Under 19s Report

It was an all blue affair in the Under 19s Championship with Ross Beaton claiming his first ever national round victory and heading up a podium which was dominated by the GYTR Yamaha Junior Development Team.

Beaton had a strong start to the first race and finished second behind his team-mate Luke Styke.  In the second race the pair reversed positions and tied on points for the round with Beaton awarded the round victory based upon a count back.

“Finally after 18 months of trying I have taken my first round victory at a national level.  It feels so good, I’ve been working so hard at it for so long and I just can’t wait for the result of the series.”

“I liked the track today and it is similar to were I normally ride which is also fairly sandy.  I think it made a big difference and I am starting to ride a lot better than what I was at the start of the year.”

Harley Quinlan finished third overall after finishing fourth in both motos – it is the Queenslanders third appearance on the podium in as many rounds.

Today’s result saw Styke retain his lead in the development series with 228 points.
