General: Aaron Gobert tests IOM TT electric bike in the U.S.

Brammo press release:

With the world’s first zero emissions motorcycle race set to take place June 12, 2009 on the Isle of Man, Brammo announced it would add a second Enertia TTR motorcycle and rider to its TTXGP race team. The electric motorcycle manufacturer has also hired leading motorsports management firm Hardcard Holdings as racing project manager, and has been utilizing former American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) racing champion, Aaron Gobert, to track test the Enertia.

This ground-breaking event, staged during the historic Isle of Man TT, is a chance for designers and engineers to test and demonstrate their latest innovations in clean emission technology in the intense environment of motorsports. The TTXGP is a global competition with representatives from the USA, UK, Italy, India, Germany, Austria and the Isle of Man.

“We’re thrilled to show off our innovation and creativity to a world-wide audience,” said CEO Craig Bramscher (Twitter: @brammocraig). “With two Enertias in the TTXGP, Brammo is taking a leadership position in validating the real world performance of electric motorcycles and we’ll continue to find ways to excite consumers about our present and future Brammo products around the globe.”

The Brammo Enertia TTR race bikes are based on the same production models that consumers can buy. The Enertia TTR started as the production Enertia with its extruded aluminum frame rails, distinctive flowing bodywork, and unique battery mounting system as the basis. Where necessary, key components were then “overvolved” for the demands of racing and super-high performance. “Overvolved” is a way of thinking at Brammo that will be applied for future product offerings.

“The design, engineering and thought process that went into the Enertia TTR is relevant to both current and future products customers will see from Brammo,” said Director of Product Development, Brian Wismann.

To help manage the racing program, Brammo has retained Hardcard Holdings, a leading motorsports consultancy with extensive race program management experience. Hardcard is providing assistance on logistics, selection of team personnel and riders, guidance on contracts, event activation and the protection of Brammo’s commercial and intellectual property rights.

As part of the development plan for the TTXGP, AMA champion Aaron Gobert was the first to ride the Brammo Enertia TTR race bike on a racetrack. Gobert was blown away by the bike’s performance and handling and had this to say, “The Enertia TTR was unreal and I was amazed at how light the bike feels. Being so quiet and with no vibration, there was no fighting the motorcycle. Its incredible going through a corner and one of the easiest to ride bikes I’ve ever experienced.”
